PTA News
Welcome back and a Happy New Year to everyone. As usual in term 2, the PTA office will be closed on Wednesdays but open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:15am – 2:45pm.
Lost property continues to be a challenge. Please talk to your children about taking care of their belongings and ask them to look in the lost property boxes if they lose something. You can also help by ensuring all items that are brought to school are clearly labelled with the child’s name and current class. We often find children wearing hats that don’t belong to them because they don’t know how to check if it belongs to them! Show your child the labels on their clothing so that they know where to look. Explain to your children that they should not borrow from the lost property boxes as this causes problems for the owner when they come to look for their items.
PTA Fundraising
The school fair, which was held last term, raised almost $230,000. We are delighted to report that some of the money has been spent on new Chinese books and playground equipment. We will update you as more of the money is spent.
Events in January & February
20 January – Year 3 & 4 Social, 6 – 7:30pm Street Dance Party
9 February – Sausage Sizzle
17 February – Year 5 & 6 Disco
24 February – Family Bingo Evening
The Year 3 & 4 social promises to be a fun night with pizza, face painting, tattoos, music and a dance instructor to show the kids some cool moves! Remember to sign your child up using the online form and then send in payment of $100 by cheque payable to CWBS PTA Ltd. Please write child’s name, class and the word ‘social’ on the back of the cheque. We need some more volunteers for this event so if you can volunteer at the social please fill this in on the google form or email the PTA office directly.
The date of the sausage sizzle has been moved to Thursday 9 February. This is always hugely popular with the students but we do need quite a few volunteers. An online sign up form will be sent out by email soon with a section for parents to volunteer. Please remember to send in your cheque payment as soon as you have signed up. If you have more than one child, you only need to send one cheque but please ensure the names and classes of all your children are written on the back of the cheque so that we can correctly allocate the payment.
Healthy Eating
The Clearwater Bay School Healthy Eating Policy was launched today at a very interesting and interactive presentation. Please have a look at the policy, the traffic light system is particularly useful when preparing snack and lunch boxes for your children. To support this policy, the PTA will be purchasing the ‘That Sugar Film Toolkit’ – this contains the film and film clips, hand-outs, worksheets and information to support teachers and students in understanding sugar and the problems of too much sugar consumption and hidden sugar in products. There is a UK app that is available for download called ‘Sugar Smart’ if you are interested and this will give you the amount of sugar in a wide range of products although at this stage it is largely European products.
If you are interested in looking at ways to support the Healthy Eating Policy at School and would like to be involved in a parent task force then please do get in touch with the PTA office.
PTA Shop
The PTA sells a variety of items, including stationery, lined white boards for handwriting practice, recorders, hair ties, second hand uniform, tennis balls, mosquito repellent, second hand uniform and second hand books and DVDs.
Our shelves are looking a little bare at the moment so if you have any second hand books or DVD you’d like to donate, please drop them off at the PTA office.
